Report from Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI)

Every year the STRI does an inspection of the Monifieth golf courses, and provides advice on agronomy and greenkeeping matters. This year’s report is posted below. It is a fairly technical document, but it is hoped that members will read through the main points. Overall the report shows that the golf courses are in good condition, and the STRI Report recommendations will bring about continued improvement.

Winter Programme of Work

Work has commenced to repair the area to the right of the 13th hole on the Medal course, where the banks of gorse have been removed. Mounding will be used to screen the area behind. It will continue meantime as ‘lift and drop’.

Mini coring of greens will start at the end of October; this is essential work to aerate the greens; it will cause minimal disruption to putting surfaces.

Work will commence shortly to finish the storage compound to the right of the 4th hole on Ashludie. This will allow the area around the greenkeepers’ sheds on the 13th  hole on Ashludie to be tidied up. Once the storage compound is complete, the whole area will be restored.

Work will also begin shortly on bunker refurbishment, when bunkers may be taken out of play for a period of time.
